Tanner spent the summer between his Junior and Senior year at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. With a knowledge base in fiscal policy gained from his membership in the Public Policy Research Scholars, Tanner was granted the opportunity to work hands on in the financial industry. He conducted risk analyses of brokerage firms for the Trading and Markets division of the SEC. An interesting aspect of my internship at the SEC was the broad exposure to the financial industry. I’m doing hands on work, actually contacting firms’ compliance divisions and CFOs. It’s a lot more than just paper pushing or filing. Through funding provided by the Penn Wharton Public Policy Initiative, Tanner was able to experience all that DC had to offer including a visit to the Air & Space Museum, concerts, and the free movie series in the park.
