October 29, 2018
The workshop went over the advantages and logistics for working in the federal government and the types of positive impact employees can make. “There are all kinds of ways government touches our daily lives,” said Matsumoto. “We’re not necessarily looking at big or small government, but we want smart government.”
The two representatives from the Partnership also showed students how to navigate and understand the employment listings for federal positions. They explained the General Schedule (GS) Grade Criteria and implications for job seekers of all educational levels.
In addition, the workshop covered important resources for students either looking at the Pathways Program (programs specifically for undergraduates, recent graduates, and advanced degree holders) or full-time employment. The team gave tips for federal resumes, cover letters, supplemental questionnaires and interviews.
“Our top advice for current students is to begin looking and planning as soon as possible,” said Matsumoto. For more information, refer to the slide deck [PDF] from the presentation.
