UN World Economic Situation and Prospects 2014 Report is Optimistic

- House Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers (R-MI) made comments suggesting that Edward Snowden had assistance from Russian intelligence operatives, as some of his security breaches appear to be above his individual capabilities.
Rep. James Lankford (R-OK) announced last night that he will be running to fill Sen. Tom Coburn’s Senate seat. Sen. Coburn announced his retirement from the Senate, effective at the end of this year.
- A lack of support for the International Monetary Fund in the recently passed budget could weaken US influence in the organization.
- The United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects 2014 report predicts modestly faster global growth in 2014 and 2015 (3%, 3.3%) than the 2013 growth rate of 2.1%.
- Deutsche Bank’s report of a €1 billion fourth quarter loss is raising doubts about the strength of Europe’s economic recovery.
